The Department of Public Works is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 82 miles of streets and highways, sidewalks, snow removal, solid waste collection, and building maintenance. The Department also maintains the vehicles and equipment for all Town departments and heads the Cemetery Division.
Solid Waste Collection
All household and commercial refuse generated in the Town is transported to the Concord Regional Solid Waste/Resource Recovery Cooperative facility located in Penacook. The Town joined the cooperative in 1985 and signed an agreement that will provide access to the facility until the year 2009. The Department provides curbside residential waste pickup and commercial property owners must make arrangements with a private hauler, licensed by the Town, to transport their waste to the CRSW/RRC facility.
Solid Waste Transfer Facility
The Towns Solid Waste Transfer Facility is located at 8 Exchange Street, adjacent to the Department of Public Works Garage. The Facility is open to residential users on Tuesdays and Saturdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Users must first obtain and display a facility permit prior to using the facility.

Residential users: no charge for annual renewal.
Demolition and construction debris. Burnable & Non-Burnable Residential Construction Debris is restricted to 4 feet in length. Household furnishings are also included. Residents are restricted to two loads per day @ $20.00 per full load. All users must provide a copy of a valid building permit issued by the Town.
Tires. Passenger tires less than or equal to 19" are $5.00 per tire. Tires on rim and tires greater than 19" are not accepted.
Appliances. Fees apply to refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, hot water tanks, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, microwaves, and any metal item with motor. Please see fee schedule.
