Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Applicants must be 21 years of age by the date of the written test.
US Citizenship is required.

Illegally used a controlled substance, other than marijuana, within 36 months; unless the applicant was under 21 years of age at the time of use, in which case 24 months shall apply.
Manufactured, transported for sale, or sold a controlled substance.
Used a controlled substance while employed in a law enforcement capacity.
Been dishonorably discharged from military service.
Been convicted of a felony.
Been convicted of a misdemeanor involving dishonesty, unlawful sexual conduct, physical violence, controlled substances, moral turpitude, or any offense that would cause a reasonable person to doubt the applicant's character, honesty, or ability.

- $15 fee covers our cost of the exam
Physical performance exam
- Physician’s waiver required
- Duplicates the NH Police Standards and Training Recruit Academy entrance exam. (http://www.pstc.nh.gov/faqs.htm#coopers).
- This exam must be successfully completed, yearly, per department policy.
Week #7 Oral board examination
- Conducted by (3) senior law enforcement officers.
- Candidates are evaluated upon,
- Appearance and demeanor
- Oral expression
- Adaptability and attitude
- Job knowledge and skills
- General suitability for the position.
Week #9 Chief of Police interview
- Conditional Offer of Employment - Conditions include successfully completing the remainder of the hiring process and certification as a police officer through the NH Police Standards and Training Council.
Week #10 Polygraph examination
- Used to determine the candidate’s truthfulness throughout the hiring process.
Week #11 Psychological examination
- Evaluates the candidate’s mental health and suitability
- Required by the NH Police Standards and Training Council
Week #12 Background investigation
- Extremely detailed review of the candidate’s work, educational, residential, personal, and relationship history over the last 10 years.
- Required by the NH Police Standards and Training Council.
Week #15 Final interview with Chief of Police
- Offer of probationary employment extended.
Week #16 Medical exam
- Used to determine if the candidate meets the physical medical requirements required of a police officer as established by the NH Police Standards and Training Council
Week #17 Finalist presented to the Board of Selectmen for final approval
- Probationary Officer sworn in.
