Police Department - Community Education |
Since 1995 the Pembroke Police Department has included a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program Report in the yearly Town Report. The D.A.R.E. Program remains the corner- stone of our community education effort. There are, however, other activities we do that deserve recognition. If you are interested in any of the programs listed below please contact the department.
N.R.A. Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program - This program is presented yearly to the students at the Pembroke Hill School. The program, developed by the National Rifle Association teaches kids what to do if they find a gun, Stop, Don't Touch, Run Away, Tell an Adult!
Red Ribbon Week - The last week in October is set aside as National Red Ribbon Week. The program was developed to honor and remember Drug Enforcement Officer Enrique Camarema who was killed by a drug dealer. It is a celebration of student's commitment to stay drug free. Each year the Department participates in the celebration at the Three Rivers School.
American Red Cross Blood Drive - Each year the Department sponsors a Red Cross blood drive.
A.A.R.P. 55 Alive Elderly Driving Course - The Department sponsors and host this driving program designed to refresh elderly drivers on the rules of the road and driving tips. It is on an as needed basis.
Classroom Presentations - Each year Pembroke Officers speak to students in classrooms throughout the Pembroke School District. Topics range from arrest processing, child abuse investigation, motor vehicle law, and law enforcement forensics and career opportunities in law enforcement.
Bike Safety Rodeo - Beginning in the summer of 2004 the Pembroke Police Department will sponsor an annual bicycle rodeo each summer at the Village School parking lot in Pembroke.
The event's purpose is to promote bicycle safety and stress the importance of wearing a properly fitted bicycle helmet. Some of the events at the rodeo include, bicycle inspections,
bicycle registration, helmet sizing, and three obstacle courses. An officer from the Pembroke Police Department will be present to provide basic bicycle safety instructions to the riders. There
is no cost to participate in the event and gift certificates are awarded to bicyclists after successfully completing the course. If you have any questions please contact
Officer Ian Nickerson at 603-485-9173 ext. 3304
Police Station Tours - Each year we give station tours to Girl and Boy Scout groups as well as school classes to help kids become more familiar with officers and the Pembroke Police Department.
