Thursday, April 20, 2023 - 7:00pm

The Pembroke Historical Society in conjunction with the Pembroke Town Library will present local author John Porter to speak about the topic of his book “The History of Agriculture as Told by Barns” on Thursday April 20 at 7 pm in the Library.  The event is free and open to the public.

The evolution of barn architecture tells the story of New Hampshire agriculture. This presentation will be a chronological walk through time, with photo illustrations of barns around the state that are examples of these eras of agricultural history.

John Porter was raised on a dairy farm in Lebanon, New Hampshire.  He graduated from the UNH with a B.S. Degree in Animal Science, and he also has master’s degrees from Cornell University in Animal Nutrition and Farm Management, and from Bob Jones University in Education Administration.  He had a 32-year career as a Dairy Specialist for the UNH Cooperative Extension and operates his own consulting company, Farm Planning Services, LLC.  He co-authored the book “Preserving Old Barns”; and also edited and co-authored an addendum to the dairy history book, “The New Hampshire Dairy Industry.”
